Pinwheels for Prevention
APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Pinwheels for Prevention is a nationwide public awareness campaign. Pinwheels for Prevention was created by Prevent Child Abuse America and its state chapters. It goes beyond making people aware of the issue of child abuse and neglect. It engages people to act to prevent it from ever happening in the first place.

The campaign is built around the symbol of the pinwheel. Pinwheels are a happy and uplifting symbol of childhood. The pinwheel represents the CAC’s efforts to change the way our county thinks about prevention, focusing on community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention right from the start to make sure child abuse and neglect never occur. It represents our efforts to ensure the healthy development of children nationwide, while recognizing that child development is a building block for community development and economic development.

During this entire month of April in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month the CACCC will display at its side yard on Union Street 220 Blue Pinwheels. Each pinwheel represents one child who was given a forensic interview at the CACCC during the 2009 fiscal year (Sept 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009.)
